plaques.
Venue: Cathedral of Ss. Peter & Paul, Ennis.
Date: Saturday: 29th. August 2009

As part of this year’s Heritage Week Programme, Clare
Roots Society members are making a presentation in conjunction
with guest speaker Br. Martin Brown of Glenstall Abbey,
regarding Ennis Cathedral, its building, burial plots &
memorial plaques.
From the individual speakers we will learn of
Cathedral’s conception in 1821 to its various
developments over 180 years; the deaths of a stone cutter and
mason while building the Cathedral; the story of the 5 priests
and 5 bishops buried within its grounds; the background to Dean
Barrett, the Bishop who never was; the Cathedral Clerks who
were caretakers of the wealth of records left to us; the
various priests who ministered to the people of Ennis &
surrounding townlands and much more.
